Chris Black knows what it means to rebuild. After navigating multiple corporate layoffs—first managing a big-box electronics store in Montgomery, Alabama, and later surviving reorganizations in commercial sales at Mercedes-Benz—Chris made a promise to himself: it was time to take complete control of his family’s future.

His path to leadership wasn’t a straight line; it was forged in the hustle. Chris first learned the radio and telematics industry while running his own roadside assistance company on the side. When the pandemic hit and roadside calls slowed to a crawl, he adapted, installing emergency lighting and building out utility trucks and police cars to make ends meet.

It was during this time that David, an old colleague and the original founder of DCCI, reached out. Needing boots on the ground in Alabama, they partnered up in late 2021 and moved DCCI into Chris’s office. Over the next two years, they grew the business side by side. When David was ready to retire, Chris saw the ultimate opportunity to cement his family's legacy. They struck a deal in June 2024, and by October, Chris officially bought the company.

Today, Chris is the President and Head of Sales at DCCI, but he’s not doing it alone. DCCI is a true family operation: his wife runs the business office, his oldest son serves as the Operations Manager, and his youngest son recently joined to spearhead the company’s new e-commerce division. While many local competitors have been swallowed up by corporate two-way radio giants, DCCI remains proudly independent. The Black family plans to be around for many years to come, actively training up the next generation of communications experts.

As the host of The FamBoss Frequency, Chris brings his signature grit and transparent leadership style to the microphone. The podcast is a weekly conversation for entrepreneurs and blue-collar leaders who are running their businesses and their households from the same chair.
